Do plants need light to grow? – Activity 2

This activity involves children planting seeds in the light and in the dark to observe what happens. Children will learn that seeds germinate in both the light and the dark.  If the activity is continued, they will learn that the plant does not reach maturity in the dark.

This activity is useful for teaching children about germination and plants.  It fits into the topic of ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ as well as to ‘Plants’. An extension activity is available and this activity provides another opportunity for children to develop their understanding and skills conducting a fair test.
