Comparing two habitats
ResourceThis activity involves practical observations and comparing habitats. It provides children with real life contexts where they are able to identify the differences between two habitats. It demonstrates the skill of observation and using a scientific eye to explore the link between habitats and plants and animals which may be found there.
Topics covered include habitats, plant adaptation, classification of plants and scientific enquiry. It could be useful to draw information together and evidence learning that has already taken place, or as an explorative activity to engage the children and immerse them in to the idea that science all around them.
This activity links well with our resource looking into dandelions. Here there is an opportunity to collect data and apply numeracy skills as well as understanding how plants may grow in different habitats.
