How fast does a root grow?

This activity allows children to observe and measure how fast a root grows from seedlings previously grown in Petri dishes or clear containers. There is a pupil sheet containing a method on how to grow the seedlings before carrying out this activity. Pupils will learn how roots grow over a period of a few days and cross-curricular links feature where pupils can use skills learnt in maths to measure the progress of the root.

Using and applying mathematics: identify and use patterns, relationships and properties of numbers, investigating a statement involving numbers and testing it with examples.
