Growing seedlings in the classroom – Activity 1

This activity taken from Primary Booklet 1, Parts of a Plant and their Functions provides an opportunity for pupils to identify and describe the main parts of a plant by observing how seeds grow into seedlings.
The pupils will plant seeds and then make careful observations of the seedlings after a week of growth.
This activity is useful to support children to identify and describe the basic structure of a plant, including the seed. The activity can be extended by the children planting a range of fast growing seeds to compare the parts.
