Investigating how different light intensities affect sun and shade plants
I will be investigating how different light intensities affect two types of sun and shade plants. This investigations will take place in controlled conditions under a light bank, with plants grown from seed.
Would you please recommend some types of sun and shade plants that I can use for my investigation that will be fairly easy to maintain?

The effects of radiation on Sordaria fimicola
My A-level project is based upon the effect of radiation on the frequency of recombination in Sordaria fimicola, crossing black- and white-spored varieties. I am looking for information on normal recombination frequencies. Can you help?

The effects of nitrate on Lemna
I have some questions about the effect of nitrate on Lemna.
Do you think you could tell me why too much nitrate is harmful to lemna? What the biological significance is of nitrate on the growth of lemna? What is the natural lifespan of lemna, i.e. were the plants dying naturally or was it the effect of the nitrate?

The effect of different concentrations of nitrates on root tips
I am investigating the effect of different concentrations of nitrates on mitosis (in the root) in garlic cloves
What different concentrations of nitrates would you suggest I use?
How long would I have to leave the garlic cloves in the different concentrations before I saw an effect on mitosis?
Is there a basic nutrient mix for garlic cloves that I would be able to keep constant whilst altering the concentration of nitrate?

How chemicals in fertilisers affect mitosis
The producers of different fertilisers claim to increase the rate of mitosis in plant roots, but I do not know how specific chemicals in the fertilisers affect the rate of mitosis.

Plasmolysis in beetroot cells
I am planning to investigate plasmolysis in beetroot cells and need two substances to compare in order to perform a t-test. I was thinking of NaCl and CaCl2 but this is too easy as the tri-ion CaCl2 will have a greater attraction for the water and thus increase plasmolysis.

Identifying microbes
How can I identify microbes? (Bacteria and fungi)
I am collecting the liquid from a compost column and making lawn plates on nutrient and malt agar. I would like to try to identify some of the microbes instead of just noting the number, colour and shape of the colonies.
