How can we compare photosynthesis in different algae?

One of our 6th year pupils wants to compare photosynthesis in different algae using algal balls. Please could you recommend which algae she should use?

You could try Chlorella, Selanastrum gracile and Scenedesmus quadricauda.

We know that Chlorella is slower growing than the usual Scenedesmus

This page explains the differences in the normal habitat of these three species.

A good source of information on algae (as well as a supply of cultures) is Sciento.
